Stripping Sai Wan
Besides bestowed with the world class unique acidic volcanic hexagonal columns, Sai Kung Country Park also boasts the longest stretch of coastline in Hong Kong and spectacular coastal landforms.

Tai Long Wan is the most famous beach, with its rocks formed during 143 – 140 million years old while the coastlines are ever changing Tai Long Wan, rectangular in shape with 3 km wide, stretches from the headland of Tai Long Tsui in the north to the projection of the mainland in the south. It comprises of Sai Wan, Ham Tin Wan, Tai Wan and Tung Wan, commonly termed as the pristine 「Tai Long four beaches.」. Amongst which, Sai Wan, with its picturesque scenery is termed by nature lovers as the backyard of Hong Kong. Antiquities and Monuments Office also indicates Sai Wan has archaeological site in its geographical information system on Hong Kong heritage website.

On 16/7/10, SCMP reported the chairman of two publicly listed companies - Mongolia Energy Corporation and Vision Values Holdings had purchased the 100,000 sq.ft land for more than 16 million Hong Kong dollars. Bulldozers and workers have started the project in late June. A piece of land facing the seas was disastrously stripped off. The destruction of Sai Wan totally reflect the loopholes of the government’'s conservation policy, the legislation’s grey area, the inefficiency of the executor and the lack of a comprehensive holistic long term conservation policy.
